Ba Trai Dao (Three Peaches Beach)
Named after three dome-shaped limestone islets that resemble giant peaches floating on the water, Ba Trai Dao is widely celebrated as having the finest natural beaches and clearest waters in the entire Cat Ba archipelago.
Fact sheet
The beaches here are tidal: at low tide, powdery white sandbars appear beneath towering karst overhangs, disappearing beneath the sea at high tide.
Why Ba Trai Dao is so special
Unlike many beaches on mainland Vietnam, Ba Trai Dao has zero concrete development, zero roads, and zero vendors. The tiny beaches are completely wild, sheltered within a natural amphitheatre of 200-meter limestone pinnacles.
The water here is exceptionally clear and emerald-green, making it the premier anchorage for cruise ships to drop anchor so passengers can jump off the upper deck for an afternoon swim or paddle kayaks around the rock arches.
Tidal timing: plan around low tide
Because the sandbars are low, they are completely underwater during high tide (usually 3 to 4 hours each day). Reputable tour captains time their arrival to coincide with falling tide so guests can walk on the sand and sunbathe.
